Abstract:

INTRODUCTION: This retrospective study aims to identify common allergens in our province by evaluating the results of skin prick tests administered to patients presenting with allergic complaints. METHODS: The study included 1152 adult patients admitted to pulmonary department of Kahramanmaraş Necip Fazıl City Hospital with allergic complaints between 1 September 2012 and 31 December 2015. Patient data were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: The study included 1152 patients, %30,3 men (n=350) and %69,6 women (n=802). The mean age was 37,6±13,6 for women and 35,6±16,1 for men (p=0,001). Diagnoses of patients; 39.7% of patients with asthma (n=457), 45.2% of patients with allergic rhinitis (n=521), 15.1% of patients with asthma + allergic rhinitis (n=174). Prick tests positivity %54,9 in male patients (n=192), %60 in female patients (n=481) and totaly %58,4 of all patients (n=673). Positive reactions were mostly to house dust mites 1 (D. Farinea) (%22,3,n=257) and the second most to grass mix (%18,2, n=210).The patients were classified according to age groups. Allergic reaction was seen mostly in the age group over 50 and secondly in 41-50 age group. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Accroding to study results, it is recommended for the people with atopy or allergic disease to avoid especially from mites, trees and grass pollens in Kahramanmaraş.
