Abstract:

Diabetes Mellitus DM, which increases rapidly in the frequency of appearance, is a new life experience for a person. Because it is a lifelong chronic disease, it affects the lives of individuals and their families in all aspects, causing physiopathological changes in individuals as well as problems, conflicts and changes in the psychosocial dimension. All of these changes negatively affect diabetes management and can aggravate diabetes, negatively affect the patient’s life and quality, and cause a person to experience problems of adaptation and acceptance to the disease. A diabetic patient who needs to keep both his disease and his life under control must have sufficient knowledge, skills and positive attitudes to succeed in the management of diabetes. In this phase, nursing initiatives play an important role. The nurse should fix the negative attitudes of patients with diabetes and provide support for the development of their positive attitudes. Not to forget that the use of the theory and model in nursing practices is effective to these goals, the Neuman Systems Model, which has a human-oriented holistic approach, can be based on cooperation with the patient in the determination of all goals and planning of initiatives. Using the Neuman Systems Model, the nurses identify the stressors that diabetic individuals experience, address their needs in a comprehensive perspective, and determine the appropriate nursing diagnoses.
