Abstract:

This study investigates the opinions/perceptions/evaluations of psychological counselors and counselor candidates regarding rehabilitation counseling. In Turkey, there are training and employment opportunities mainly for school counseling in the field of psychological counseling. This situation causes under-recognition of other sub-fields and prevents psychological counselors and counselor candidates from developing themselves in these fields. The aim of this study is to get the opinions of psychological counselors and counselor candidates about rehabilitation counseling, which is one of the least known areas of PCG, through open-ended question forms and to determine what kind of suggestions they offer for the development of this area. As a result of the data analysis made through content analysis, it was seen that rehabilitation counseling was perceived as a service for individuals with special needs. Participants think that in addition to the characteristics that psychological counselors should have in general, the psychological resilience of rehabilitation counselors should be high. In addition, according to the findings of the study, it can be said that the view that rehabilitation counseling is not developed in Turkey and that it is not well known even by those who receive counseling training can be said to be confirmed.
