Abstract:

Old Uyghur; mainly based on the translation of religious texts on Buddhism, Manichaeism and Nestorian Christianity. Buddhism is the most widespread among them. Buddhist Uyghur literature, which consists of works related to the Buddhist canon in Sanskrit, contains works in many different genres and subjects. Among these works, the texts classified as narratives or legends have a large share. Works on Buddhist narratives are sometimes written independently, and sometimes they form sections within some voluminous works such as sūtras. Old Uyghur Daśakarmapathāvadānamālā, Araṇemi-jātaka, Bodhisattva Sattvauṣadha, Good and Evil Prince, Candraprabha-avadāna, Śarabha-jātaka and Rāma-narratives are among the most important texts to be mentioned when it comes to Buddhist narrative literature. In addition to these, there are also the fragments that do not form the subject of any study today and whose text could not be determined. These fragments sometimes help to reveal some words and concepts that have not been witnessed before in Old Uyghur. In addition, they provide an integrated framework of the Buddhist narrative texts and, together with this, the determination of the boundaries of the Buddhist Uyghur corpus of Sanskrit origin. At this point, in this article, the philological edition of fragments belonging to the Old Uyghur narrative genre, which has not been published until now, on various subjects in the volume of 106 lines is aimed. The fragments included in this work are preserved today in the Berlin Turfan Collection under the archival numbers: U 1946a; U 1946b; U1126; U 1867; U 2011 and U 2109+U 2003. Transcription, transliteration, translation into Turkey Turkish, text notes and index/dictionary of these fragments mentioned in this article are presented.
