Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi Öğrencilerinin Sağlıklı Beslenmeye İlişkin Tutumları ve Beslenme Okuryazarlığı

Üniversite yaşantısına geçişte öğrenciler zaman yetersizliği, bilgi eksiliği, düşük maliyetli gıda maddelerini tercih etme, işlenmiş gıdaya yönelim, artan alkol ve sigara kullanımı gibi nedenlerden yetersiz ve dengesiz beslenme sergileyebilmektedir. Öğrenciler, beslenme ve sağlık alanında eğitim aldıkça beslenme okuryazarlık düzeyleri ve sağlıklı beslenmeye ilişkin tutumlarının arttıracağı düşünülmektedir. Bu bağlamda, çalışmada Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin sağlıklı beslenmeye yönelik tutumları ve beslenme okuryazarlık düzeylerinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmaya spor bilimlerinde öğrenim gören 147 öğrenci dahil edilmiş olup bu öğrencilerin demografik bilgileri, Yetişkinlerde Beslenme Okuryazarlık Değerlendirme Aracı ile Sağlıklı Beslenmeye İlişkin Tutum Ölçeğine verdiği cevaplar toplanmıştır. Yapılan araştırma kapsamında, sınıflar arası beslenme okuryazarlık düzeylerinin 4. sınıfların lehine olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p<.05). Beslenme okuryazarlık düzeyleri cinsiyetlere göre incelendiğinde ise kadınların ‘’okuduğunu anlama’’ dışındaki tüm alt boyutlarda istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı fark oluşturduğu belirlenmiştir (p<.05). Katılımcıların sağlıklı beslenmeye ilişkin tutum ölçeği puanları sınıflara göre incelendiğinde gruplar arasında anlamlı fark görülürken (p<.05) cinsiyetler arası anlamlı fark görülmemiştir (p>.05). Yapılan araştırmanın sonucunda, beslenme okuryazarlığı seviyesinin Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinde eğitimlerle dahada arttırılması ve sağlıklı beslenme davranışlarının özellikle sporcularda desteklenmesi gerektiği düşünülmektedir. Yapılan çalışmaya göre, yetişkinlere özellikle genç yaşta genel beslenme, porsiyonlama, gıda etiketlerini okuma ve sayısal okuryazarlık konularında eğitim verilmesinin insanların sağlıklı beslenmeye yönelik olumlu tutum geliştirmelerine yardımcı olacağı düşünülüyor.

Abstract:

During the transition to the university life, students can show insufficient and imbalanced nutrition due to reasons such as lack of time, lack of knowledge, preference of low-cost foods, reference to processed foods, increased alcohol and smoking. As students receive education in the field of nutrition and health, it is believed that nutrition will increase their level of literacy and attitudes towards healthy nutrition. In this context, the study aims to study the attitudes of the students of the Faculty of Sports Sciences towards healthy nutrition and the levels of nutritional literature. The study included 147 students studying in sports sciences, and these students gathered demographic information and responds to the Adult Nutrition Reading Assessment Tool and the Healthy Nutrition Attitude Scale. In the framework of the study, the inter-class nutrition level of literature has been found to be in favour of the 4th class (p<.05). When the levels of nutrition readiness are studied by gender, it has been determined that women make statistically significant differences in all subdimensions except "understanding what they read" (p<.05). When the participants’ attitude scale points for healthy nutrition were studied by classes, there were significant differences between groups (p<.05) and there were no significant differences between sexes (p>.05). According to the research, the level of nutritional literacy should be increased by training in the School of Sports Sciences students, and healthy nutritional behaviors should be supported especially in athletes. According to the study, it is believed that training in general nutrition, portioning, reading food labels and numeric literature, especially in young age, will help people develop a positive attitude towards healthy nutrition.

In the transition to university life, students may exhibit inadequate and unbalanced nutrition due to reasons such as timelessness, lack of knowledge, preferring cheap foodstuffs, turning to more processed food, and increasing alcohol and cigarette use. As students receive education in nutrition and health, their nutritional literacy levels and attitudes toward healthy nutrition can increase. Accordingly, this study aimed to examine the attitudes and nutritional literacy levels of the Faculty of Sports Sciences students toward healthy eating. One hundred forty-seven students studying at SBF were included in the study. Socio-demographic information, Adult Nutrition Literacy Assessment Tool with Attitude towards Healthy Eating Scale responses were collected from the study participants. Within the scope of the research, it was found that the nutritional literacy levels between classes were in favor of the 4th graders (p<.05). When the nutritional literacy levels were analyzed by gender, it was determined that women made a statistically significant difference in all sub-dimensions except ‘’Reading Comprehension’’ (p<.05). When classes analyzed the attitude scale towards healthy eating total scores of the participants, a significant difference was seen between the groups (p<.05); there was no significant difference between the genders (p>.05). As a result of the research, it is thought that the level of nutrition literacy should be increased with training in the students of the Sports Science Faculty and healthy eating behaviors should be supported, especially in athletes. According to the study, it is thought that if adults are given training on general nutrition, portioning, reading food labels, and numerical literacy, especially at a young age, it will help people develop positive attitudes toward healthy eating.
