Aim: This study was carried out to determine the levels of postpartum depression and affecting factors of mothers who gave birth to healthy and sick baby. Method: The research was conducted in the city center of Erzurum between March-May 2012. The population of the study was composed of 157 mothers for sick babies who agreed to work and treated as a boarder in Yakutiye Research Hospital and 135 mothers for healthy baby who agreed to work and applied to Ceylanoğlu Family Health Center. The data were collected via informative features form prepared by the researchers and by using Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale. Findings: The mean age of mothers with sick baby was 27.26±4.8in the study. The living any medical problems status of mothers with sick baby during pregnancy was 25.5%, state of psychological problem was 72%, living difficulty situation in the care was 57.3% were determined. In the study, the mean age of mothers with healthy baby was 27.59±4.5. The living any medical problems status of mothers with healthy baby during pregnancy was 46.7%, state of psychological problem was 23%, living difficulty situation in the care was 47.4% was determined. In the study, mean score of Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale for mothers with healthy baby was 9.54±4.56, for mothers with sick baby was 13.09±5.94 and the difference was significant statistically (p<0.001). Conclusions: The incidence of postpartum depression in mothers with healthy babies than mothers with sick babies were low.
