Abstract:

In this research, it is aimed to identify the opinions of music teachers and classroom teachers working in primary schools about the music lessons which take place on specific days and weeks. In the research conducted in accordance with the screening model, to fit for this basic aim; teachers were asked about the musical structures, quantitative and qualitative qualities of the school songs related to specific days and weeks, and what problems they have with respect to the teachings of the songs. The population of this research consists of music teachers and classroom teachers working in primary schools in Istanbul, and the sample consists of music teachers and classroom teachers who were selected randomly, working in primary schools in 2017-2018 school year. The following results are obtained from the findings in the study: Music and classroom teachers found that music lessons are useful for certain days and weeks; music teachers found that the musical structures melody, form, sound limits etc. of songs that exist for certain days and weekends are "partially appropriate" and the words are "appropriate" meaning, vocabulary ; classroom teachers found that the words of existing songs for certain days and weeks are "partially appropriate" in terms of their age group they are oriented to and the age group’s vocabulary, and the songs are “appropriate” for their reminiscence and easiness to learn. Music and classroom teachers have the opinion that music lessons for specific days and weeks increase students' love of the country and nation, improve their responsibility to comply with traffic rules and legislation, be more conscious and responsible for the conservation of nature etc. will contribute in general terms. Teachers mostly celebrate/memorialize the following specific days and weeks in their music lessons: Atatürk Week, Teacher's Day, Acceptance of Independence Anthem and Mehmet Akif Ersoy's Commemoration Day, Martyrs' Day and Mother’s Day
