Quantitative analysis of brain oscillations contributes to the understanding of brain dynamics in various brain pathologies, primarily epilepsy. This study aimed at identifying and maping energy changes of brain oscillations using a new quantum approach based on wave transformation. The analysis of the generated signals suggested an approach that divides EEG into four basic low-frequency bands and then quantifies the energy values of these bands. In addition, these energy values are created on the head surface energy maps. The EEG records of epilepsy patients obtained from the CHB-MIT Scalp EEG Database were used to test the recommended method. The signs to be analyzed are prepared separately from the entire record so that the time of the attack will cover the time before and after the time of the attack, including the moment of the attack. For each subband energy percentage using the obtained numerical data, the energy differences before, at the moment of the attack and after the attack are also statistically compared. The method presented in this study is believed to be applied to all the EEGs recorded for epilepsy and other brain pathologies to gain information about the brain dynamics and to be used together with other brain imaging methods in the determination of the focuses that lead to brain pathologies if recorded from multiple assemblies at the same time.
The quantitative analysis of brain oscillations has an importance in understanding brain dynamics of several brain pathologies. In this study, it is purposed to determine and map the change in the energy of brain oscillations using a new quantitative approach, based on wavelet transform. An approach, seperating the EEG records to four main sub-band and then quantizing the energy values of them, is suggested. Moreover, energy maps of scalp surface are formed by using these energy values. To test the suggested method, EEG records of epileptic patients which had been obtained from CHB-MIT Scalp EEG database were utilized. The signals which would be analyzed were prepared such that the seizure was in the middle and the signal consists of pre-seizure and post-seizure as long as the seizure time. Then, by using the data obtained, energy differences during pre-seizure, seizure and post-seizure were compared for each sub-band energy percentage. It is thought that the suggested method can be applied to EEGs recorded for epilepsy and other pathologies to be informed about brain dynamics. In addition, in case of getting records simultaneously from several montages, the method can be used for localization of sources causing brain pathologies with other brain imaging techniques.
