Abstract:

Bu makalenin amacı, Osmanlı Devleti’ne gerçekleştirilen gezilere ilişkin seyahatnamelerin Almancadan Türkçeye yapılmış olan çevirilerini Genette (2016)’in yanmetin kavramı bağlamında irdelemektir. Bu seyahatname çevirileri 1960–2017 yılları arasında yayınlanmıştır. Temel alınan bütünce 16 farklı seyahatnameye ait 34 çeviri sürümü içermektedir. Seyahatname, yanmetin ve çeviri ilişkisine değinildikten sonra sözü edilen seyahatname sürümlerinin yıllara göre dağılımı gösterilmiştir. Seyahatname çevirileri erek kültür dizgesinin bir parçası olduğundan, bu çeviri kitaplardaki iç metinler, erek okurların çeviri metni nasıl okumaları gerektiği ve kendilerini nelerin beklediği konusunda aracılık etmektedir. Böylelikle bu iç metinler, okurların olası ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak üzere ve erek kültürün koşullarına göre üretilmektedir. Örneklerle bu iç metinler aracılığıyla erek okurla nasıl bağ kurulduğu gösterilmiştir. Bu çalışmada ayrıca, belli başlı iç metin türlerinin niceliksel ve niteliksel incelemesiyle çeviri olgusu, çevirinin amacı, çevirmenin görünürlüğü/görünmezliği, yayınevlerinin çeviri politikası, çeviriyi etkileyen etmenler vb. konularda bilgiler sunmak amaçlanmıştır. Toplanan veriler, iç metinlerin bir yandan erek okurların olası ihtiyaçlarına göre şekillenebildiğini gösterirken diğer yandan erek kültür dizgesinin bazı ideolojik dinamiklerine hizmet edebildiğine işaret etmektedir.

Abstract:

The purpose of this article is to review the translations of travel related to the Ottoman State from German to Turkish in the context of the concept of fire in Genette (2016). These travel translations were published between the years 1960 and 2017. The basics contain 34 translation versions of 16 different travel destinations. After reference to the relationship of travel, flame and translation, the distribution of the travel versions mentioned according to the years has been shown. Since travel translations are part of the men's culture directory, the internal texts in these translation books mediate how men's readers should read the translation text and what awaits them. Thus, these internal texts are produced to meet the potential needs of the readers and according to the conditions of the male culture. Examples show how these internal texts are linked to the male reader. In this study, the translation phenomenon, the purpose of the translation, the visibility/invisibility of the translation, the translation policy of the publishers, the factors that influence the translation, and so on with the quantitative and qualitative examination of certain main internal text types. It is intended to provide information on the subject. The data collected indicates that internal texts can be formed according to the potential needs of male readers on the one hand, and on the other hand that the male culture directory can serve some ideological dynamics.

The Phenomenon Of Paratexts In Translations Of Travel Books

This study aims to analyse Turkish translations of German travelogues about trips to the Ottoman Empire within the framework of Genette’s (2016) concept of paratexts. These translations of travelogues were published between the years 1960-2017. The corpus of the study includes 34 translated versions of 16 different travelogues. After giving a brief overview of the relationship among travelogues, paratexts and translation, the distribution of different versions according to years are displayed. Since travel books are a part of the target cultural system, paratexts within these translations are guides to target readers for reading translation; target readers also know what is inherent in these translations thanks to these paratexts. Thus, these paratexts are produced according to the conditions of the target culture in order to meet the needs of the readers. Examples display how a bond is created with the target reader via these paratexts. This study also aims to suggest information about the phenomena of translation, the aim of the translation, visibility/invisibility of the translator, translation policies of the publisher, conditions affecting the process of translation, and such through using the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the main paratexts. Collected data display that paratexts are shaped according to the needs of the target readers and these paratexts may be used for ideological dynamics of the target cultural system.
