Introduction: Healthcare workers play an important role in the control of tobacco products. This study intended to determine the stage of behavior change of healthcare professionals who are smokers according to the transtheoretical model and related factors. Material and Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on 182 healthcare workers in a hospital in Aydın, Turkey between the dates February 2019 - January 2020. Readiness of the volunteers to quit smoking was determined with the support of the Transtheoretical Model. The volunteers were asked to fill out a questionnaire form which included questions about sociodemographic characteristics, health, details about tobacco use. Chi-square and Student t-tests were performed and was re-evaluated with the multivariate logistic regression test by including the related factor, age and sex. Statistical significance level of p<0.05 was used. Findings: Healthcare workers who smoke 1-10 cigarettes a day are 4.47 times more ready to receive support than those who smoke 11 and more cigarettes a day (95% CI ,88-10,62); volunteers who have tried for smoking cessation in the previous year is 2.82 times more ready to receive support than those who have tried these longer than 1 year ago (95% CI 1,17-6,79 ); volunteers who have tried for smoking cessation 3 or more times are 2.70 times more ready than those who have tried for smoking cessation 2 or less times. Conclusion: This study generated information that can facilitate the process for healthcare workers who are smokers to receive professional help for smoking cessation. Identifying priorities in this subject can increase means of intervention and provide guidance to develop interventional programs under the scope of public health practices.
