Özet:

Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the usability of the Omaha System in identifying the health needs, nursing interventions and outcomes of the elderly living in a nursing home. Methods: This was a description study. During the study process, 30 elderly people living in the Keçiören Residential Home and Social Welfare Institution, in Ankara followed between 01 November 2009 - 18 June 2010 and nursing care implemented by using Omaha System. Results: According to the Problem Classification Scheme, the most frequently nursing diagnosis was coded in physiological domain and the least frequently nursing diagnosis was coded in environmental domain. A total of 30241 nursing interventions were implemented, and surveillance was the most and case management was the least category used. Conclusion: Omaha System has been found useful in identifying the health needs, nursing interventions and outcomes of the elderly. However, signs-symptoms such as eye redness / itching / gum, swelling of eyelids, wound in the mouth, halitosis, negative body image, sweating, hands / feet tingling / numbness, nose bleeding, not breathing effectively, difficulty falling asleep, irregularities in sleep and rest, inadequate foot care, inadequate perineum hygiene, inadequate oral hygiene, lack of information about illness and treatment plan should be added in Problem Classification Scheme.
