In this study in which the sustainability benefits of family enterprises in the Hatay province are studied, 15 family enterprises selected by random sampling method have been tried to create survival stories by investigating the lifetime, the number of employees, the difficulties they have faced so far and the measures they take against these difficulties. Technical research methods are used in the field of research. The family members were asked to identify survival stories by asking 39 open-end questions that include the three subdimensions of sustainability (economic, social and environmental). The results of the research show that the most of the companies are 3. It is seen that they can reach the generation, that the founders in their sustainability are effective to be the leader and the visioner, that family members grow up from the kitchen of the business. However, family and business values are sometimes confronted, family competition, the reflection of problems in private life, and generational disputes are seen as problems faced throughout the enterprises. The study was conducted only in the Hatay province and in 15 family enterprises that prevented the generalizability of the results. The results can be generalized with the application of research questions in other provinces and more
In this study, the sustainability adventures of family businesses in Hatay were examined. 15 family businesses were selected by random sampling method. Life times of businesses, employee numbers, difficulties they faced were tried to create their survival stories. Within the scope of the study, interview technique was applied from qualitative research methods. It was tried to determine the survival stories by addressing the family members with 39 open-ended questions including three sub-dimensions of sustainability (economic, social and environmental). As a result of the research, it is seen that businesses can reach up to the third generation, that the founders' leading qualifications and vision are effective in their sustainability, and that family members come up through the ranks. In addition, some problems such as conflicts between family and business values from time to time, family competition, reflection of the problems in private life to work and intergenerational disputes stand out as the problems encountered across businesses. Conducting our research only in Hatay province and with 15 family businesses creates an obstacle to the generalizability of the results. The results can be generalized by applying the research questions in more cities and businesses.
