Abstract:

The study area covers the coastal areas of Salda Lake located in the Lakes Region. Salda Lake, which developed within the Marmaris ophiolite nappe, which is the upper unit of the Lycian nappes, is a graben lake formed in a tectonic bowl formed in the neotectonic period. Fault scarps, elevated shores and terraces that delimit the lake sides from place to place prove the existence of this tectonic depression. Located in a closed basin, the lake covers an area of 42.8 km2. According to the morphometric analyzes made, Salda is a semi-elliptical shaped lake with irregular circularity. Having this morphology; The effect of the fan deltas developed on the shores and the structural extensions that shape the lake are important. In addition, the tectonic evolution of the region has also been influential in the development of the morphological forms on the lake shores. While low-wide coasts developed on the coasts where alluvial deltas developed, narrow-high coasts developed on the other coasts. Along with the tectonic movements in the area, current cliffs, paleo cliffs and terraces have also developed on the coasts. Most of the deltas, which are the most common morphology of the lake shores, are of the protruding delta type, while the others are blunt deltas, weak deltas or crescent-sided deltas. Salda Lake, which hosts the species protected by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, is a wetland of both international and national importance in this respect. In this context, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change declared Salda Lake and its surroundings as a Special Environmental Protection Area in 2019.
