Abstract:

Social media is one of the increasing means of communication for today’s importance and use. Excessive and unnecessary use of these tools that facilitate human life in aspects such as access to information, interaction, entertainment, personal presentation and different identity creation can lead to risk of addiction. In addition to the use patterns on social media addiction, various psychological variables can also be effective. This study discusses the relationship between self-esteem and social media addiction. In the study using the field research method, the data was collected by face-to-face survey technique from 400 health workers at the Konya center. Research findings show that participants are under the middle level of social media addiction. Social media addiction does not differ by gender. With age, addiction decreases. The increase in the time of daily social media use increases the risk of addiction. There is a meaningful relationship between social media addiction and self-esteem in a negative direction. As the work done by the health workers who participated in the study is sufficient to see, to be peaceful with yourself, to see yourself valued and satisfied, to care for your personal value, to increase the level of finding yourself talented and successful in many matters, there is a decrease in social media addiction. The results indicate that the low dimension of self-sufficiency, social media dependency, is a significant determinant in the negative direction.
