Özet:

Despite all the negative value judgment ‘committed’ against the Gypsy community, no one can tell the Gypsies are being crushed under the ‘black mythology’ about themselves. Music not just a skill given to Gypsies but also serving as a global defense mechanism in the hands of Gypsy musi- cians, play the major element to handle the life for the whole Gypsy com- munities. It seems Gypsy music has two basic functions in the struggle for the community to be represented as equals against the other ethnic groups where ever they are being settled. On one hand the outstanding Gypsy mu- sicians use their skills as an invitation given for them to accomplish to reach the so called “decent population” of the public. On the other hand another type of Gypsy music can turn the most popular, well-accepted morals-po- litical beliefs of the public into ridiculous obsessions by propagandizing the complete denial to common values. In the second type of music Gypsy population make fun of, nearly all of the upper-culture’s behavior system by compromising alcohol, tobacco usage or even drugs to ruin the altruism fundamental of the public. Then the fight in between the upper culture and the sub cultural attack of the Gypsies begins in a very naive but eager tone. Although this still cannot be called as a death blow it still has a destructive effort against the community as a whole. In this article Turkish gypsy mu- sic will be discussed in its relation with political and cultural hegemony under the scope of resistance and consent dialectic.
