In this study, it is aimed to compare the 6th grade students in terms of misspellings and punctuations in manuscript handwriting and cursive italic handwriting. For this purpose, five research questions were created and the study was carried out according to exploratory sequential pattern on the basis of mixed method based on these research questions. The population of study consists of a total of 28 students in the 6th grade at Faik Güngör Middle School in Yakutiye district of Erzurum Province in the 2014-2015 academic year. The data obtained through interviews and published documents were analyzed by descriptive analysis and statistical analysis methods. Considering the results obtained, it can be said that quantitative and qualitative findings are consistent with each other and it is likely to be true to reach a judgment in terms of misspellings and punctuations in manuscript handwriting and cursive italic handwriting. It is determined that students make fewer mistakes in cursive italic handwriting regarding punctuation and spelling rules, use more words in manuscript handwriting, mistakes made in both handwriting methods are similar to each other, words are written incorrectly in cursive italic handwriting and letters are written incorrectly in manuscript handwriting. In accordance with the results of our study, it can be said that conducting descriptive studies for manuscript handwriting and cursive italic handwriting types help researchers to compare these handwriting types, determining attitudes of students regarding these two types of handwriting will create a basis for a comparison and more consistent data should be obtained by conducting longitudinal studies.
