The subject of the East in 20th century English literature surfaced due to several reasons: as a continuation of the literary-historical traditions of the English literature; due to the works of the Western writers living in the colonized Eastern countries; as a cultural outcome of the different expeditions to the Eastern countries. The works of Rudyard Kipling have played a significant role in the development of 20th century English literature and in bringing Eastern personages and points of views into the Wes-tern literature alike. Kipling's one of the most interesting short stories about the life in India is "Strange Ride of Morrowbie Jukes". Both the living conditions of the local people of India and the relationship between the colonist and the Indians were reflected in this short story.
