Yüksek Konsey’in kararını takriben, 15 Mayıs 1919 tarihinde Yunan birlikleri İzmir’e çıktılar.
Greece joined the Paris Peace Conference in 1919 as one of the first world war winners. The goal of the Greek leader Venizelos was to realize the dream of the Megali Idea by expanding the borders of his country at the Paris Peace Conference. To accept their claims at the Paris Peace Conference, Venizelos used false population statistics, the power of propaganda, his Greek friends and political talents in Europe. He claimed that the Greek population in the land he demanded was greater than the Turkish population, and that in these areas the Turks persecuted the Greeks. At the conference, the European took advantage of the Italian occupations of Anatolia, which occurred without the approval of the major states, and managed to influence the members of the High Council. On May 6, Venizelos' diplomatic efforts ended and the High Council allowed Greece to occupy Western Anatolia. By the decision of the High Council, the Greek troops arrived in Izmir on May 15, 1919.
