Kıbrıs, her dönem önemini korumuş bir ada olarak Türkiye için siyasi, sosyal, kültürel ve ekonomik açılardan önemli bir yere sahiptir. Kıbrıs sorunu ise güncelliğini korumuş bir konu olarak Türkiye dış politikasının önemli alanlarından biridir. 24 Temmuz 1923 tarihinde imzalanan Lozan Antlaşması ile Kıbrıs’ın egemenliği İngiltere’ye bırakılmış ve böylece siyasi statüsü belirlenen ve çözüme kavuşturulan bir konu olarak Kıbrıs sorunu bir süre kenarda bekletilmiştir. Atatürk döneminde özel ilgi gösterilen ada, bu dönemden sonra belli bir süre Türk dış politikasının gündeminde yer almamış ve ancak 1950’li yıllarda Türkiye siyasetinde meşruluk kazanmıştır. Bu süre zarfında burada yaşayan Kıbrıs Türk toplumu ile kültürel ve sosyal bağların koparılmaması için özel bir çaba sarfedilmiştir. Özellikle Atatürk dönemi olarak adlandırılan Türk dış politikasının ilk ayağında, Kıbrıs ve Kıbrıs Türk toplumuna karşı hassas ve duyarlı bir politika izlenmiştir. Kıbrıs Türk toplumu 29 Ekim 1923 tarihinde kurulan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ve bu yeni cumhuriyetin getirileriyle yakından ilgilenmiş, özellikle Atatürk ilke ve inkılaplarını hemen hemen her alanda uygulamaya koymuşlardır. Bu gelişmeler ışığında özellikle Kıbrıs Türk siyasal hayatı yepyeni bir döneme girmiş, İngiliz yönetiminin baskısı altında dahi olsa Atatürkçü yaklaşımlar geliştirilmiş ve bu doğrultuda şekilllenen ideolojiler Kıbrıs siyasetinde söz sahibi olmuştur. Bu çalışmada Atatürk dönemi Türk dış politikasının Kıbrıs Türk siyasal hayatında yarattığı köklü değişiklikler ve Kıbrıs Türk siyasal hayatına bıraktığı kalıcı izler değerlendirilecektir. Çalışma, Kaynak tarama metoduyla elde edilen arşiv belgeleri ve diğer kaynaklar doğrultusunda değerlendirilmiştir.
Cyprus is an island that has always maintained its importance and has an significant place for Türkiye in terms of political, social, cultural and economic aspects. The Cyprus issue, on the other hand, is one of the important areas of Turkish foreign policy as a topic that has kept its time. With the Treaty of Lausanne signed on July 24, 1923, the sovereignty of Cyprus was left to England, and therefore, the Cyprus issue was kept aside for a while as an issue whose political status was determined and resolved. The island received special attention during Atatürk period, but after this periodmwas not on the agenda of Turkish foreign policy for a certain period of time, and it gained legitimacy in Turkish politics only in the 1950s. During this period, a special effort was made in order not to break cultural and social ties with the Turkish Cypriot community living in the island. Especially in the first phase of Turkish foreign policy, called the Atatürk period, a sensible and reponsive policy has been followed towards Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot community. The Turkish Cypriot community was closely interested in the Republic of Türkiye, which was established on 29 October 1923, and the benefits of this new republic, and they especially implemented Atatürk’s principles and reforms in almost every field. In the light of these developments, especially the Turkish Cyprus political life has entered a new period, Kemalist approaches were developed even under the pressure of the British administration, and ideologies shaped in this regard have had a say in Cyprus politics. In this study, the radical changes created by the Turkish foreign policy of the Atatürk period in the Turkish Cyprus political life and the permanent traces it left on the Turkish Cyprus political life will be evaluated. The study was evaluated in line with archival documents and other sources obtained by source scanning method.
