Abstract:

The food culture in Turkish communities has been very developed. The Turkish communities saw food not only as a state of nutrition, but also as a reflection of its social status. In the Dede Korkut Book, one of the works that best reflect the Turkish culture, it is also an example of bringing black sheep or sheep to the child who is not talking about the relationship between this food and status. In the Turkish communities, birth, marriage and death after dinner ceremonies were held. In the Kazak community, some special meals are made for some ceremonial days. For example, the five-finger meal is made specifically for the guest who comes, and the five-finger meal is presented in a ritual accompaniment, divided according to the statues of the people on the table, the race and age. For married couples, a girl plate and a boy plate are prepared, and some religious practices are applied in this dining ritual. A dining ceremony is held to be shared by family members who learn that the bride is pregnant. The newborn woman is cut by her family or wife. The cut sheep is fed to the mother and the child and a number of religious practices are applied in this feastful ceremony. It was evaluated in the study by who and how this application was performed, how it was beneficial to the mother and child. In the study, the food culture was studied in the context of the Kazak people’s guest welcoming culture, where those who come to the ceremony or home as guests will sit on the table, which meals will be offered to them and who will offer it in the ritual ceremony. These foods reflect the place, beliefs and traditions of a person in society when assessed within the culture. The meals made in these important days are also a situation that brings people together, enables them to share their common cultural values and enables them to be evaluated psycho-socially. In this study, on the basis of the data of the fieldwork we conduct among the Kazakh people, the religious practices applied in the context of the ceremony and food, the reflection of the social perspective of the Kazakh people on the food culture, the understanding of the food culture and the practices they practice in the ceremonial days, the reflection of the tradition of the food culture of guest welcoming.
