Abstract:

Conceptual change in the learning process is mentally structured by the learning by the cycle of the absorption of new information and reorganization of existing information. The proper and adequate structure of the concepts is directly concerned with the future professional qualifications of the teacher candidates and therefore requires the identification of the deficiencies of the teacher candidates in this subject. Because one of the most important factors in the proper and adequate structure of concepts from the early ages is teachers. When determining the levels of acquisition of the concepts, considering that the learning at the bachelor level of the class teacher candidates is the basis for the classes and daily life in their future lives, the proper structure of the concepts in the early period is of importance for both themselves and their students. With this research, class teacher candidates were attempted to determine the levels of gaining concepts in the subjects of primary school science courses. Research data was obtained using the scan model from quantum research patterns. The research data was obtained by applying the data to the 93 class teacher candidates who studied at a state university in Central Anadolu with the prepared "Fen Science Course Concept Form" and randomly selected. The measurement tool and the student's conceptual knowledge, in addition to the request for short answers, enabled them to identify conceptual errors. The study found that the sex characteristics of teachers’ candidates have no influence on the levels of understanding the concepts of science and that the majority of teachers’ candidates have a low level of understanding the concepts of biology. The units in which the teaching candidates are most challenging are the five senses/senses and electric vehicles/simple electric circuits units respectively, while the highest levels of success are found in the unit of strength and movement.
