Abstract:

There are many religious, civil and military structures belonging to the Late Ottoman Period dating from the mid of XIX. century to the beginning of XX. century in the center of Tirebolu District in Giresun. The subject of this study consists of water structures composing of a water gage, a fountain and a Turkish bath located in registered street taking part in the centre of Tirebolu. Within this scope of this study the historical process, the architect –structure relationship, architect-master, materials-tehcnical data, the locations and the properties of architecture and dressings of these water structures are investigated. The adhibition forms of these structures are examined and the stylistic similarities or differences are compared with the general examples in the provincial and capital cities built in the contemporary period. The aim of the study is to pursue the reflections on these architectural works being built by the notables of the society in the Black Sea and having certain styles in the artistic phases of Ottoman architecture in line with place-society relationships and economic and historical developments with the multi-directional approach. Considering these approaches, it is aimed to document the historical structures being destroyed and facing extinction because of the modern high-rise buildings within the scope of the discipline of art history and to be a resource for local researches in the field.
