Obesity and associated diseases are increasing rapidly and increasingly today. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is now the most commonly used bariatric surgery in the world. It is one of the most effective treatments in treatment, especially in type 2 diabetes patients. The aim of this study is to study the effects on glucose metabolism in patients following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. In this study, the files of 174 patients with a body mass index below 35kg/m2 between March 2013 and September 2019 and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were reviewed backward. Patients were evaluated by a multidisciplinary team in the pre-operative period. Patients who provided criteria for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy were taken to surgery according to the American Association of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons criteria. Demographic data, body mass index, insulin, glycosized hemoglobin (HbA1c), glucose, homeostasis model insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) values were recorded. Patients were followed by planned clinical visits in 1-3-6 and 12 months after surgery and afterwards. Results: The average age of 174 patients with laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy was 39,57±9,40, the average body mass index was 32,70±2,65. 149 patients (85.6 percent) were female. The hospital stay was an average of 3.1 ± 0.7 days. The patient’s glucose, HbA1c, HOMAR-IR and insulin values were observed as statistically significant in 12-month monitoring. Compared to the pre-operative period, a significant decline in the body mass index was also observed. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is an effective surgery on glucose metabolism in patients with body mass index 30-35kg/m2. (SETB-2019-10-127)
