Abstract:

The main purpose of this study is to present the experiences of academicians who conducted or have conducted SRP (scientific research project) in a state university during the project execution process. In the study, the phenomenological design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was employed. In this study, the phenomenon focused on can be expressed as “project experience". The study group consists of 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 12 lecturer Dr. and 1 research assistant Dr. In order to obtain data about the experiences of the academicians on the Project an open-ended question form, which consisted of five questions, was prepared by the researchers. Moreover, four questions related to the demographic information (title, work experience, the number of the conducted projects and the department) of the study group were asked. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively by the researchers using the NVivo 11 Qualitative Analysis Program. According to the findings of the research, the academicians participated in the study stated that they took part in these projects with the aim of making contribution to the field. The academicians also expressed that they found making scientific publications significant and therefore they involved in the SRP process for making publications. Academicians stated that while determining the individuals to be included in the project team, they paid attention to select individuals with high level of field knowledge about the project. Academicians stated that they followed a solution-oriented approach and tried to find quick solution suggestions in a way that did not prevent the progress of the project. Academicians believed that a disciplined and collaborative approach was important in this process and thought that it was important for them to produce publications in this process. The academicians stated that they would be careful in the selection of individuals who would take part in the project team. Some of the academicians stated that they would give importance to discipline and time management during the project process. Another issue that was considered important by academicians was the preparation process. As a result, it can be stated that academicians have obtained different and rich experiences from the processes of their existing project execution that they can make use of in future project activities.
