Since 1945, after the loss of the popularity of the single party system in Turkey, rapid steps in the way of multi-party democracy began to be made. The multi-party political life, which is one of the most important elements of democracy, has seriously affected the political life in Turkey as it has caused significant changes in the political life. With the transition to multi-party life, political parties’ political activities towards Eastern and Southeast Anadolu have also increased. At the end of its organization, the DP began to be organized throughout the Anadolu, causing the CHP to start its structuring work in order to restore its organizations in the Eastern provinces that Sheikh Sait and the Pain Rebellion were shrinked or closed after. The transition of Turkey to the multi-party life, as in the whole country, has brought a new dynamism by influencing the political life in Van. DP, immediately after its establishment, began to be organized in Van in 1946, while a 23-year party like CHP founded its organization in Van 2 years ago, i.e. in 1944. In this study, the organizations of the CHP and the DP in the province of Van and the reflections of the dispute between the two parties in the 1950 election in Van.
Upon the loss of popularity of the one-party system, quick steps for multi-party democracy have been taken in Turkey since 1945. Multi-party political life, which is considered one of the most important elements of democracy, not only caused significant changes in political life, it also seriously affected the political life in the rural areas of Turkey. With the transition to multi-party life, political activities of political parties towards Eastern and South-Eastern Anatolia also increased. The fact that DP started to organize all over Anatolia after its establishment, caused CHP to start restructuring studies in order to re-expand its organizations in the Eastern provinces that it had narrowed or closed after the Sheikh Said and Ağrı Rebellions. Turkey's transition to multi-party system brought a new dynamism by affecting the political life in Van as in the whole country. While DP started to organize in Van in 1946, right after its establishment, a 23-year-old party like CHP had established its organization in Van 2 years before that date, in 1944. In this study, the organization of CHP and DP in Van Province and the reflections of the conflict between the two parties on the 1950 elections in Van were examined.
