Abstract:

In study, the articles of Mr. Nazım, who is the director of the Police Journal, the official publication organ of the Emniyet-i Umumiye Müdüriyeti, during the Armistice years are included. He gave important information about the situation of Istanbul under the occupation and the Turkish police against the occupation. It has been determined that Mr. Nazım, who is famous as the ‘King of Turkish Poetry’ in literature, also has a security identity. He is among the important personalities for the Turkish Police Organization with his ideas and thoughts. He has proven to be a ‘police thinker’ in a real sense. Since the time he was appointed as the Director of the Police Magazine, Florinalı Mr. Nazım has written on both daily events and professional subjects. He talked about how the moral structure of the police should be, the fight against the Hrisantos Gang and the heroic cops, the issue of fugitives, police training and police school, gambling and interviews with police chiefs. In addition, the poems that Florinalı Nazım Bey could not publish at that time due to being the official publication, but published in the Police Magazine after the National Struggle was won, were also included in the study. It should be noted that the sincerity between Mr. Nazım and Gazi Pasha is quite high. He sent congratulatory telegrams and sometimes poems to Gazi Pasha on many important days and weeks in the Republican Era. Each time, Gazi sent a telegram to Mr. Nazım and conveyed his satisfaction. The majority of these telegrams were published in the Police Journal. Thus, he built bridges of love between the Turkish Police and Gazi. In addition, Gazi Pasha himself mentioned in his telegraph writings that his pen was powerful in his poems. A similar situation was experienced with İsmet Pasha. They were telegraphed many times, and Florina published some of these telegrams. In study, the writings of Mr. Nazım Bey (1919-1921), were evaluated. It deals with the critical period between the occupation of İzmir and the Sakarya Victory.After the loss of the war, the beginning of the invasions and the destruction of the external firewall, the state of internal security is evaluated. The interventions of the Entente police regarding internal security were revealed. The period press and documents from the Presidency Archive and the Police Archive were also used. With this study, the anatomy of the Armistice Period Istanbul Police was revealed.
