Edebiyatta üsluba duyulan ilgi canlılığını sürekli korur. Yakın zamana değin bir sanatkârın eserinde yer alan isim, sıfat ve fiillerin kullanılma sıklığı, şekli tamlama biçimi ve cümle yapılanması dilin sadeliği ya da ağdalı oluşu üslup tespitinde belirleyici olmaktaydı. Bu incelemeler bir noktaya kadar sanatçının dünyasını üslubuna yansıttığı gerçeğini ortaya koysa bile esere yansıyan tarzın tamamen sözcük türlerinin sayımına ve tümcelerin durumuna bağlı olacak kadar basit değildir. Bu durum sadece sanat eserlerine özgü olmayıp akademik çalışmalar da kendini belli eden bir durumdur. Bir öğretim üyesi olan Orhan Okay’ın bilimsel çalışmalarının yanında deneme ve anılarına yansıyan üslubu dikkat çekici bir özelliğe sahiptir. Mekân/muhit ve kader ne kertede ilişkili ise şahsiyetten esere yansıyan yazış biçiminin de yetişme tarzıyla bağı vardır. Doğu ve Batı medeniyetinin kesiştiği bir coğrafyada doğan ve her iki medeniyeti temellük edinen bir muhitte, Balat’ta çocukluğunu idrak eden Nurettin Topçu ve Mehmet Kaplan’ın ilkin talebesi, sonrasında belirli bir seviyede dostu olan Orhan Okay orijinal bir şahsiyet olarak karşımıza çıkar. Hocalığının önemli bir kısmını Erzurum’da icra eder ve hocalık sıfatı üzerinde hep baki kalır, ‘Hocaların Hocası’ vasfıyla sürekli ilim, irfan adresi olur. Orhan Okay’ın karakteri, yaşadığı mekânlar ve şanslı tanışıklıkları kaderi gibi üslubunu da şekillendirir. Akademik çalışmalarında bunu açıkça görmek mümkündür. Ötekileştirmeyen, duygudaşlığa (empati kurma) dayalı, tarafsızca incelediği kişiye ve konuya yaklaşımı üslubunun ana çizgilerini oluşturur.
The interest in literature is constantly preserved. Until recently, the use of the name, character and facts in the work of an artist, the frequency, the form, the form of completion and the form of the phrase, the simplicity of the language or the form of the word, were determining in the identification of the form. Even if these reviews reveal the fact that the artist reflects the world in his style to a point, it is not so simple that the style that reflects the work will depend entirely on the number of word types and the state of the whole. This is not only a matter of art, but also a matter of academic studies. In addition to the scientific work of a faculty member Orhan Okay, the style that reflects the experiments and memories has a remarkable feature. The place and fate are related to what the person’s character refers to the work, and the form of writing is also related to the style of adulthood. The first request of Nurettin Gunçu and Mehmet Kaplan, who was born in a geography where the Eastern and Western civilizations crossed and founded both civilizations, which realized his childhood in Balat, and then Orhan Okay, who was a friend at a certain level, comes to us as an original personality. He performs an important part of his teaching in Erzurum and always remains on his teaching status, with the "Master of the Teachers" as well as constant knowledge, irfan address. Orhan Okay’s character, the places he lives, and his lucky acquaintances, also shape his fate. It is possible to see this clearly in academic studies. It creates the main lines of the attitude to the person and the subject that it is neutrally examined, based on emotionality (empathy).
