Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of the autonomy scheme field, which is shattered from the early-term incompatible schemes of university students in the emerging adulthood period, on the quality of a romantic relationship, the forms of connection and the satisfaction of psychological needs. The study’s study group consisted of a total of 461 university students, including 327 girls and 134 men in adulthood, aged 18-25 years. The research used the data collection tool as the Inventory of Living in Near Relationships-II (Selçuk, Good Morning, Sumer and Uysal, 2005), Young Schema Scale-Short Form 3 (Soygüt, Karaosmanoğlu and Çakır, 2009), Psychological Needs Scale (Eşici, 2014) and Romantic Relationship Quality Scale (Eşici, 2014). SPSS 21 and AMOS 18 packages were used for data analysis. According to the findings from the research; connectivity, the quality of the romantic relationship, directly and indirectly through the self-determined scheme area and psychological needs, the self-determined scheme area, the quality of the romantic relationship, directly and indirectly through the psychological needs, and the psychological needs, directly related to the quality of the romantic relationship. The findings were discussed in the literary framework. As a result, it is believed that the quality of the individual’s romantic relationship and the intersection between the worried and avoidant levels of connectivity and the intersection between the early period’s incompatible schemes can be associated with the evaluation of the individual from a cognitive point of view. That is, it is believed that changes in the individual’s cognitive structures or negative characteristics may be associated with anxiety and avoidance of connection and that these changes or negative characteristics may negatively affect the quality of the individual’s romantic relationship.
