Abstract:

The Ottoman state faced many military, social and economic problems during the First World War. In this context, on the one hand, he fought on the far fronts of the country, and on the other hand, he tried to cope with social and economic crises. At this time, the country’s extraordinary conditions have led to the rise of high prices in basic consumer goods. The conditions brought by the war economy and the problems of the war have led to the people and groups who want to take advantage of this process to carry out carburantism. In the years of war, the increase in demand for food, the decline in production and the closure of transport routes resulted in the stop of imports. Karaborsa has found a place in social life by making storage, insistance, emphasis and speculation as a negative reflection of supply and demand balance. The Ottoman government has failed to overcome the hyper inflation resulting from the caraborsa, although it has taken some measures to solve the problem of the coal. After all, during the years of war, the army has been influential in the country’s social and economic life. This study will be included in the framework of archive documents on the caraborsa and results of the war economy in the years of the First World War.
