The article discusses the phenomenon of verbal means of expressing intense anger in Polish and Russian languages. The lexemes under investigation are wściekłość, furia, pasja, szał; бешенство, ярость, безумие, исступление, неистовство and other members of their word families. They all denote the state of excessive agitation, when a human being may lose control. The analysis proved that the Polish lexemes are translated into the Russian language not only with the use of their strict equivalents, but also by words, idiomatic collocations and metaphors that display similar meaning as well as the units naming weaker anger. There have also been observed cases when the markers or even longer parts of the original text have been omitted in translation.
