THE PLACE OF GRAMMAR TEACHING IN TURKISH EDUCATION

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to determine how the teaching grammar was handled in middle school Turkish curriculum. Grammar was handled different education mentality at the past period. Grammar has taken place Turkish education as a mother tongue education. Studies and curriculums about the necessity of grammar teaching, perspective on grammar and how should grammar teaching be was examined. This study is qualitative research and as a method the descriptive survey was applied. Document analysis was conducted. Three Turkish lesson curriculums was examined (1949, 2006 and 2019). Importance of teaching grammar in terms of Turkish lesson was examined. Additionally, relationship with between grammar and reading, listening, speaking, writing which is basic laguage skills was tried to determine. Even if there are some differences, grammar teaching was considered significant in order to develop basic language skills. Grammar is supportive to develop language skiils. Therefore, examined curriculums have teaching grammar.
