Abstract:

It is possible to say that Akif sees social difficulties in Safahat as ignorance, indulging in superstitions, keeping a distance from science, lack of profession, laziness, callousness, hopelessness, general lack of example, lack of communication between the scholars and the people, and national and political differences. He states that the basis of all these is lack of education/ ignorance. For this reason, one should take the necessary steps urgently for the development of science and education, give importance to technology and art, prioritize national unity and solidarity, work hard, raise morality and virtue, provide justice, give importance to family, improve religious understanding, and eliminate the gap between religion and science, and between scholars and people. Akif identified the problems before, and then he took action for the awareness of the problem and he finally shows the solution path. He especially gave importance to the education of young people and tried to raise moral, hardworking, and conscious individuals. He states that the religious understandings overwhelmed by superstitions pave the way for heedlessness and ignorance in society and notes that religious knowledge should be based on reason and revelation.
