In this study it is aimed at determining the hopelessness levels in the living of population of Gümüşhane, provincial center, and differences if they are in hopelessness level in terms of various variables. While the universe of the study is composed by the individuals living in Gümüşhane, the provincial center, the sample group includes 258 women and 135 men, total of 393 people determined by the method of random sampling among the volunteers wishing to participate the survey. In order to determine the hopelessness levels of the participants the 'Hopelessness Scale' which was developed by Beck et al as used and in order to receive information about the participants and their families the 'General Information Form "developed by the researchers was used. As a result the mean scores of female participants was 5.22 ± 4.03 and the mean scores of male participants was 5.91 ± 4.79; while the average score of all participants was 5.54 ± 4.34. When statistically significant difference was found between hopelessness level and educational level, profession, spouse education level(p <0.001) and profession, income level of the participants (p <0.05), there is no significant difference statically was found between hopelessness level and, age, gender, marital status, number of children, that the family has health insurance or not and family type (p> 0.05).
