Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the counterattack of Brazilian futsal teams. We used notational analysis (1043 counterattacks). The assisted counterattack (58.1%) was more frequent than the individual counterattack (41.9%). More counterattacks ended without a shot on goal (53.3%) than with a shot (40.7%) or goals (6.0%). Direct ball recovery (86.6%) was the main way to recovery ball, with goalkeeper actions (12.1%) and indirect ball recovery (1.3%) being lower. Drawing (44.1%) or winning (35.0%) teams made more counterattacks than losing (19.9%). It was also verified that the counterattacks started in the defensive half-court, with direct ball recovery, and ended in offensive half. With the fifth opposing player, there was more chances to shoot on goal and be more effective.
