The current article analyzes the external structure of an English-language research article on linguistics written by a native speaker. The author of the article examines the conventionalized structure of the text, relying on its formally separated sections. The study proves that the external structure of the text is determined, on the one hand, by editorial and publishing requirements, and, on the other hand, by certain conventions regulating the ways of constructing the text within a certain linguistic culture. Based on the material of articles in various disciplines, the study establishes the specificity of the English-language articles on linguistics in terms of the designation of the main sections of the text.
