Abstract:

In the study, it was aimed to evaluate the accreditation awareness of the students of an accredited physiotherapy and rehabilitation department undergraduate program and to contribute to the self-evaluation process of the program. The cross-sectional study was carried out with 374 students continuing their education in the undergraduate program of the University of Gazi, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. In our study, a two-part questionnaire developed by the researchers by examining the evaluation criteria of the Health Sciences Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association was used as a data collection tool. The minimum target rate for each item in the questionnaire was determined as 70%, which was previously accepted as the cut-off value in the literature. Of the students participating in the study, 24.1% were 1st grade, 21.9% were 2nd grade, 29.9% were 3rd grade and 24,1% were 4th grade students. In the first part of the questionnaire, the general knowledge of the students participating in the study about accreditation and their level of knowledge about the accreditation of the program were evaluated. In this section, it was found that the rate of reaching each item was above the cut-off value of 70%, which was previously stated in the literature. In the second part of the questionnaire, it was determined that the knowledge levels for each item, in which the effects of accreditation on the program and students were evaluated, were above the target rate of 70%. This result shows us that the students in our department’s undergraduate program have sufficient knowledge about accreditation and that they are aware of the effects of accreditation on the program
