Özet:

This study aimed to identify the reasons for the practice of the futsal initiation. Its sample was composed by 88 futsal practitioners of both sexes, aged from 7 to 17 years who are part of the basic categories of the City School of Atletas do Futuro from Saltinho-SC state. The data collection instrument used was the Inventory Motivation for Sports Practice of Gaya and Cardoso (1998). Concerning results, the highest average presented was sport competence (2.7), followed by health (2.6) and, after, friendship and recreation (2.2). The Student T Test revealed that the average sportsmanship surpassed that of health and friendship, moreover, the average health topped the friendship (p <0.05). There were no statistically significant correlations between age, time of practice of the participants and the three dimensions of motivation. There was also no significant difference in motivation between the sexes of respondents.
