Abstract:

This study aims to discuss the role and responsibilities of libraries and information centers in the spread of multicultural awareness among children and in the service of multicultural children. In this context, the basic research questions of the study are in the form of what the multilateralism phenomenon and concept is, how libraries and information centers have responsibility in the development of multilaterally-cultural services for children and inter-cultural dialogue. Based on a comprehensive literary research and the result of this study in which the description method was used, the conclusion was that libraries and information centers have a key role. Children from different cultures gather and meet, with different reading materials, visual hearing tools and events (history hours, foreign language education, shows and exhibitions, etc.) Libraries and information centers, located in environments where both their education is supported and the different cultures are known, will facilitate the child’s adaptation to a global society and, by expanding its horizon, will develop the feelings of love and respect for all people, all the differences. As a conclusion of this study, in which a comprehensive literary research was carried out and the descriptive method was used, it is obvious that libraries and information centers have a key role to play in this context. Libraries and information centers where children from different cultures come together and meet with different reading materials, audio-visual equipment and events (storytelling hours, foreign language education, shows and exhibitions, etc.) will facilitate a global collective harmonization and at the same time expand the horizon to develop feelings of love and respect for all people and differences.
