Abstract:

The relations between Turkey and the European Union (EU) began in 1959 with the application of Turkey to join the European Economic Community and came to a legal basis with the Partnership Agreement signed in 1963. Until today, on the basis of the Customs Union and membership negotiations, continuing relations have begun to develop in the energy field with the Energy Charter Agreement signed between the parties on 17 December 1994. With the effect of regional political crises over the 2000s, the EU began to experience more energy supply security concerns and the need for access to alternative supplier countries to reduce the security risk. In this regard, the geographical position between the alternative supplier countries of Turkey and the EU has played an important role in the development of energy relations. In this framework, the study will analyze the development of the energy relations between Turkey and the EU.
