Abstract:

Violence against health workers in the world and in Turkey is becoming a major job health problem. Violence in health institutions is defined as "situation that comes from a patient, a patient's relative or any individual, which constitutes a risk for the health worker; threatening behavior, verbal threat, economic abuse, physical assault, sexual assault." Our study aims to assess the violence against health workers who apply to the Medical Department of Istanbul Medical School. As a result of changes in health policies and the facing of health workers and patients, the way of dealing with medical practice errors in the press and the uncertainty of safe working conditions, health workers are responsible for all the defects of the system, the target of violence. According to the report, 72.6 per cent of health workers have been exposed to any kind of violence during their working hours, while 72.4 per cent have been exposed to violence during the last 12 months. The study discussed the frequency of the problem, the severity as well as the solutions proposals.
