Permanent ectopic eruption of the first molar tooth is considered an anomaly that occurs during the mixed dental period. Ektopic eruption prevalence has been by various studies in different communities. This prevelancy varies between 0.75% and 6. The precise cause of ectopic eruption of the permanent first molar is unknown and it is believed that many factors have played a role in its ethology. In literature, many factors that could cause this anomaly have been discussed. Permanent first molar diagnosis of ectopic eruption can be provided with radiographs taken between 5 and 7 years of age. Many radiographic techniques are used, primarily two-dimensional techniques, to detect the localization of the tooth with ectopic eruption. This includes ortopantomography and bite-wing radiography. Currently, computer tomography is also used for diagnostic purposes. Permanent ectopic eruption of the first molar tooth may cause early loss of the second molar of milk, loss of space for the premolar tooth, and this may lead to the premolar tooth being buried. Different techniques, including early intervention therapy, have been discussed in literature. The treatment is mainly used with seperators. The purpose of these separators is to minimize the effects caused by milk on the second molar tooth by taking more distale than the position where the permanent first molar female is located. The purpose of this article is to briefly review the prevalence of ectopic eruption, the etiological factors and the treatment of the permanent first molar tooth.
