Osmanlı Devleti’nden bugüne Türk basınının yaygın ve yerel ölçekte değişen iletişim yöntemleri, ekonomik, siyasi ve toplumsal koşullara bağlı olarak çeşitli dönüşümler yaşamıştır. Günümüzde yerel basınının dijital teknolojiye uyum sağlayıp sağlayamadığını belirlemek amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada, Türkiye’deki 29 ilden 54 yerel gazete nitel ve nicel yöntemlerle incelenmiştir. Gazetelerin yayın süreleri, çalışan sayıları ve sahiplik özellikleri gibi künye bilgilerinin yanı sıra haberlerde yerel konuların oranı, kaynak gösterimi ve fotoğraf kullanım ölçütleri gibi ayrıntılar sayısal veriler analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonunda, tarihi yaklaşık bir asırlık süreye dayanan yerel gazete sayısının azalmaya başladığı ve bu gazetelerin dijital teknolojiyi kullanmaktan kaçındıkları görülmüştür. Öte yandan yakın dönemde kurulan yerel gazetelerin sayısında kayda değer bir artış olduğu, ancak bu gazetelerin de dijital teknolojiye uyumlarının henüz yeterli düzeye ulaşmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Çalışmamızda, yerel gazete kadrolarının dijital teknolojiyi kullanan, iletişim uzmanı gençlerle zenginleştirilmesi gerektiği ve teknik altyapı konusunda desteklenmeye ihtiyaç duydukları varılan diğer sonuçlar arasındadır.
From the Ottoman State to today, the broad and local communication methods of the Turkish press have experienced various transformations depending on economic, political and social conditions. In this study to determine whether the local press can adapt to digital technology today, 54 local newspapers from 29 provinces in Turkey have been studied by quality and quantitative methods. The newspapers’ publication times, the number of employees and ownership characteristics, as well as the details such as the proportion of local topics in the news, the source display and the photo use criteria, have been analyzed numerical data. At the end of the study, the number of local newspapers, based on the history of about a century, began to decrease and these newspapers were avoided using digital technology. On the other hand, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of local newspapers established in the recent period, but it has been found that these newspapers have not yet reached a sufficient level of adaptation to digital technology. Our study is one of the other findings that local newspapers are using digital technology, communications experts need to be enriched with young people, and they need to be supported in the technical infrastructure.
Having changed both in broad and local scales, communication methods of Turkish press from Ottoman Period to present time have undergone various transformations due to economical, political and social conditions. In this study, with the aim of determining whether the contemporary local press has adapted to the digital technology or not, 54 local newspapers from 29 provinces in Turkey have been examined with qualitative and quantitative methods. Criteria like age of newspapers, number of employees, proprietorship status, references and photography usage have been handled as data. At the end of the study, it has been observed that number of local newspapers, whose history spans almost a century, has decreased and these newspapers avoid using digital technology. On the other hand, it has been established that there is a significant increase in the number of recently founded local newspapers, however these newspapers also have not sufficiently adapted to digital technology yet. Necessity of enriching local newspaper staff with young communication specialists who can use digital technology and requirement for technical infrastructural support to local newspapers are among other conclusions reached within our study.
