Abstract:

After the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the United States on September 11, 2001, terrorism for civilizations stands in front of the international society as a significant asymmetrical threat, within the “new” world system, where no more precise order is still achieved after the Cold War. Though the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington, Bali, Madrid, Istanbul and Beslan/North Osteia are not directly related to the discussions of Turkey’s entry into the European Union (EU), this delayed but very necessary debate has led to the widespread launch in Europe. If the EU wants to have a global power in the 21st century, it must also build an effective European security and defense wing along with its economic power. For this reason, not only the regional economic effectiveness of Turkey, but its advantages in the security and defence fields are also effectively used within the AGSP, it can make it easier for the EU to become a global power.
