Abstract:

Walid ibn Abd al-Malik, the sixth Umayyad caliph, became a powerful figure; he was an influential person who left a significant impact in his own time and after. In his time, as a result of conquest movements, the state borders extended to China in the east, Spain in the west, central Anatolia and the Caucasus regions in the north. Thus, the country's revenues and treasury were enriched. During the reign of Walid ibn Abd al-Malik, intense construction activity developed in many places, especially in the region around Jordan and Palestine. Mosques and pavilions were built, new cities were founded, some areas were restored, and some old buildings were repaired. In this article, the construction activity during the reign of Umayyad Caliph Walid ibn Abd al-Malik (86-96/705-715) is highlighted and an attempt is made to determine where, when and for what purpose it was carried out, rather than the Islamic sense of art. In this article in which qualitative research method is used, literatüre review was primarily conducted and current studies are determined with main sources that includes information on the subject. The datas obtained from this sources with document examination technique were analyzed descriptively. An attempt was made to draw new and original conclusions on the subject and also to reveal historical information.
