Abstract:

Abstract The relationships established between society and nature occupy an important place today. Regardless of the approaches and optics under which these relationships are studied, knowledge of the components of the geographical environment is undoubtedly the key to understanding the way in which these interrelationships are established. The study of soils, in its double meaning as a component of the geographical environment, on the one hand, and as a resource and means of production, on the other, allows its better management, especially by giving it an agricultural use, because agricultural production and the quality of life of the population in particular. The impacts that are generated in sunny agriculture, such as that of the tropics, give rise to consequences that reach large extensions, leading to critical tension in the environmental state of a territory. The interaction between the components of the medium determines the forming processes of the soil, the result of which determines its vocation. Human influence has had a negative effect on these interactions, appearing processes that lead to their deterioration, hence the importance of knowing how those pedogenesis factors combine to know how to use this resource more effectively. With the present work we propose to contribute to this knowledge through the analysis of the geographical distribution of soils in the Cuban territory, in light of the environmental paradigm that currently dominates the main currents of development; showing the causes that originate its distribution and diversity as well as the challenges that Cuba faces in terms of environmental management.
