ÜNİVERSİTE YERLEŞKELERİ İÇİN ULUSAL ÇEVRESEL SÜRDÜRÜLEBİLİRLİK ENDEKSİNİN GELİŞTİRİLMESİ

Abstract:

Üniversiteler, bilgi ve teknolojinin üretildiği yerler olmasının yanı sıra yürüttükleri faaliyetler ile bulundukları yerleşim birimlerine katkıda bulunan ve aynı zamanda çevresel kirliliğe sebep olan mikro şehirlerdir. Üniversiteler çevresel farkındalığı artırarak sürdürülebilirlik konularında toplumda öncü haline gelmelidir. Sürdürülebilir bir yerleşke için hedefler doğrultusunda çevresel stratejiler belirlenmelidir. Artan öğrenci sayısı ile birlikte taşınmazların yetersizliği, atık miktarının fazlalığı, ulaşım kaynaklı sorunların oluşması ve su yönetiminin yetersiz kalması gibi konular sürdürülebilirliği olumsuz şekilde etkilemektedir. Çevresel endeksler bu tür olumsuzluklarını ortadan kaldırmak ve çevre konularında bilinçlendirmeyi artırarak üniversiteler arasında rekabet ekosistemi oluşmasını sağlamaktadır. Çalışmada sürdürülebilir yerleşke ilkeleri ve uluslararası yerleşke sıralama sistemi olan Yeşil Metrik incelenerek, Üniversitelerde Ulusal Sürdürülebilirlik Endeksi (Uni-USE) geliştirilmiştir. Önerilen endeks kriterlerinin belirlenmesinde Çoklu Kriter Karar Verme yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Yeşil Metrik ve önerilen endeks kriterlerine göre Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi (SDÜ) Doğu ve Batı Yerleşkeleri değerlendirilmiştir. SDÜ'nün önerilen Uni-USE kapsamında yüzdelik diliminin%41.7, Yeşil Metrik'te ise %42.1 olduğu hesaplanmıştır. Yüzdelik dilimlerin birbirine yakın olması Uni-USE oluşturulurken yapılan öngörülerin, uygulanan yöntemlerin ve gerçekleştirilen hesaplamaların doğruluğunun bir göstergesidir.

Universities are micro cities that, in addition to being the places where information and technology is produced, as well as contribute to the settlements in which they are with their activities, and also cause environmental pollution. The universities should be the leader in the society in sustainability issues by raising environmental awareness. Environmental strategies should be defined in accordance with the objectives for a sustainable settlement. With the increasing number of students, issues such as the insufficiency of non-mobility, the excess of waste, the formation of transportation issues and the lack of water management have a negative impact on sustainability. Environmental indicators eliminate these negative aspects and increase awareness of environmental issues, ensuring the formation of a competitive ecosystem between universities. Studying the Green Metrics, which is the study of sustainable settlement principles and the international settlement ranking system, the National Sustainability Index (Uni-USE) in the universities has been developed. In determining the criteria of the indicator proposed, multiple criteria decision making methods have been used. According to the Green Metrics and the recommended index criteria, Suleyman Demirel University (SDU) Eastern and Western settlements have been evaluated. In the proposed Uni-USE framework of the SDU, the percentage range is estimated to be 41.7%, while in the Green Metric is 42.1%. The proximity of percentage divisions to each other is an indicator of the accuracy of the forecasts made when Uni-USE is created, the methods applied and the calculations carried out.

The universities are places where information and technology are produced, as well as activities that they carry out contribute to the cities and can be defined as micro-cities lead to environmental pollution. The universities should increase environmental awareness and become a leader in society in terms of sustainability. Environmental strategies in line with sustainable goals should be determined for a sustainable campus. With the increasing number of students; the issues such as inadequate properties, excess amount of waste, problems related to transportation and insufficiency of water management might be encountered and these negatively affect the sustainability. Environmental indexes create a competitive ecosystem among universities by increasing the awareness of environmental issues and by eliminating the negative effects on sustainability. In this study; among the sustainable campus policies, international campus ranking system-Green Metric was investigated and The National Sustainability Index (Uni-USE) has been developed. Multiple Criteria Decision-Making methods has been used in determining the recommended index criteria. East and West Campuses of Suleyman Demirel University (SDÜ) has been evaluated according to the Green Metric and Uni-USE. The sustainable campus indices have been reached up to 41.7% and 42.1% in Uni-USE and Green Metric, respectively. The proximity of percentages is an indicator of the accuracy of the predictions, applied methods, and calculations performed while designing the Uni-USE.
