Abstract:

In this study, the information of the literature was compiled within the scope of Suleyman Çelebi’s famous work Vesîletü’n-Necât, which was completed in 1409, and mevlid (mawlid)’s place and importance in Turkish society were tried to be transferred. The work originated in many mevlids (mawlides) written in the following periods with its simple language and effective style. It has also maintained its value this day. The birth of the Prophet Muhammad of Islam, mi’râc, tawhid (unification or oneness of God) and other subjects on him have been so expertly turned into verse that chanting of the mevlid has continued from Ottoman until today on a number of occasions in various religious ceremonies, in dhikr and rite ceremonies of the cults (sects), on the 40th day of child birth, on the 40th or 52nd day of death, after a religious offering, in marriage and circumcision weddings, pilgrims’ return, soldier’s farewells and various ceremonies. Mawlid ceremonies are performed that are read on the occasion of nights of Mevlid, Regâib Mi’râc, and Kadir, among especially the blessed nights, in the meanings perceived by culture in these time periods, and for the purpose of remembering with love of the person’s soul after those who died. In this study, which describes Mevlid’s adventure in general, mawlid’s cultural influence in our country was mentioned as well as the mevlid variants in various countries. Genel anlamda Mevlid’in serüveninin anlatıldığı bu çalışmada çeşitli ülkelerdeki mevlid varyantlarına değinildiği gibi ülkemizdeki kültürel etkisinden de söz edilmiştir.
