Abstract:

Nearness forms one of the important dimensions of romantic relationships. Therefore, it can be said that the adolescence period of proximity was among the characteristics of psychosocial development. Romantic relationships are one of the indispensable characteristics of human nature. But in adolescence romantic relationships there are few known about the nature of proximity and the development of proximity. One of the main reasons for this is that the work on the subject is relatively limited. Especially in Turkey, validity and reliability studies have been carried out, the lack of a proximity scale makes it difficult to do quantitative research. Therefore, the main objective of the research was to "develop a measurement tool that will serve to measure the level of proximity in adolescent romantic relationships." The research was carried out in the relational scan model. The research group was determined using the appropriate sampling technique. The participants consisted of 263 students who continued their education at high school and high school level in the 2019-2020 educational year. The data was collected using the materials developed for the Demographic Information Form, the UCLA Solitude Scale and the Nearness Scale in Romantic Relationships. The analysis was done with the SPSS 17.00 package program. The findings obtained as a result of the explanatory factor analysis have shown that there are three subdimensions of proximity in romantic relationships during adolescence. These dimensions are called help and support (8 items), physical attraction (3 items) and confidence in the relationship (4 items). These three subdimensions have been found to account for 63% of the total variance. The factor load of the materials varies between .63 and .83. For compliance validity, the Pearson correlation value between the participants' proximity points and the loneliness points is calculated. The findings showed that there was a statistically meaningful relationship (r= .45) in the negative direction between the proximity points and the loneliness points. Again, the Cronbach's Alpha ratio is calculated as .92, for physical drawing and .70 for reliance, and .81 for the entire scale for help and support. Cronbach's Alpha ratings seem enough to be reliable to the scale. As a result, it can be stated that the "Romantic Relationship Nearness Measurement: Adolescent Form" is in the capacity that can be used to measure the level of Nearness in Adolescent Romantic Relationships.
