Abstract:

The kidneys are an organ that plays an important role in the homeostasis of the whole body. The kidneys regulate the extracellular environment, especially the extra-cellular water and electrolytes. Kidney insufficiency is defined as a clinical condition in which kidney functions and glomerul filtration rate (GFH) decrease, accumulated urethral toxins affect the entire system. Chronic kidney disease is a common and important public health problem in the world and in Turkey. When detected early, it can often be prevented or progress can be delayed, the awareness and early diagnosis are low. The medical nutritional treatment applied depending on whether kidney failure is acute or chronic improves the quality of life of patients, while the frequency of disease-related complications, mortality and morbidity rates are also reduced. This article is discussed in the light of current guidelines for medical nutritional treatment in patients with acute kidney damage and chronic kidney failure.
