Fî Zılâli’l-Kur’ân, içtimaî bakış açısıyla kaleme alınan tefsirler arasında önemli bir yere sahiptir. Kur’ân’ın doğru anlaşılabilmesi için elzem olan Kur’ân İlimlerine, Kutub’un eserinde de başvurulmuştur. Ancak tefsir literatürü incelendiğinde, eserlerin telif yöntem ve amaçlarının farklılık arzettiği görülmektedir. Nitekim Kutub’un ön planda tuttuğu toplumu ıslâh etme temel amacı, eserindeki Ulûmu’l-Kur’ân konularının hacimsel oranını büyük ölçüde etkilemiştir. Özellikle Kur’ân ilimlerine dair tarif ve tanımlamalara, kıssalar veya mübhem ifadelerle alakalı birçoğu isrâiliyata dayanan rivayetlere yer verilmemiştir. Hurûf-ı mukattaa, muhkem-müteşâbih, nâsih-mensûh gibi ilimler kapsamındaki tartışmalara girilmemiştir. Kırâatler sadece manaya katkıları ölçüsünde zikredilmiştir. Kur’ân’ın üslûbu gibi onun edebî inceliklerinin öne çıkartıldığı ilimlerin üzerinde ihtimamla durulmuştur. Vahyin toplumun tamamına yönelik olmasından hareketle ayetlerin manalarının esbâbu’n-nüzûl rivayetleriyle sınırlandırılmaması, tefsirin Ulûmu’l-Kur’ân perspektifinden dikkat çeken önemli husususiyetlerindendir. Esbâbu’n-nüzûl rivayetlerine kaynaklık eden klasik tefsirlerin referans olarak kullanılması, vücûh içeren lafızların anlamdırılmasına ve müşkil âyetlerdeki yanılgıların giderilmesine yönelik yorumların benzerlik taşıması, Fî Zılâli’l-Kur’ân’ın klasik tefsirlerle nedenli bir ilişki içerisinde olduğunu göstermektedir.
